DESCRIPTION:Announcing a One-Day Support Staff Personnel and those personnel that work in customer relations for public agencies. This program is being conducted May 13\, 2020 and hosted by Roanoke City Police Training Academy\, Roanoke Virginia.  \nDEPARTMENTAL CLERICAL/STAFF SUPPORT JOB SKILL ENHANCEMENT\nCivilian\, non-sworn personnel who serve within departmental office settings as clerical\, support staff\, or other office functions often act as the first “buffer” between top administration and internal and external forces. Further\, they represent the values of the organization to the citizenry it serves. This one-day program will consider the many and varied roles and responsibilities of such personnel along with the important position they serve to help the organization achieve its goals and objectives. Participants will learn: (1) their role within the organization and exactly where they fit into the overall picture; (2) knowing from the beginning their respective position expectations; (3) understanding the community and the power structure within it; (4) dealing with angry citizens and easing tempers and tensions; (5) recognizing internal forces that create pressure and tension within the organization; (6) representing the department to the public; (7) improving verbal communication skills…certain words that can either arouse or calm; (8) dealing with ethical dilemmas; (9) recognizing liability issues; (10) handling matters of confidentiality; and (11) understanding the basics of conflict resolution. \nDATE\LOCATION/TIME: May 13\, 2020\, Roanoke City Police Training Academy\, 5401-B Barnes Avenue NW\, Roanoke\, Virginia\, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily. \nFEE: $200 per person. \nDISCOUNT RATE: Enroll two agency personnel at $200 per person and the third person is enrolled at half-price ($100.00) OR enroll three agency personnel at $200 per person and the third person is enrolled free. \nREGISTRATION: Complete the attached registration form and return it with your check or purchase order no later than May 6\, 2020 or fax the registration form along with your purchase order or purchase order number to 304-381-2084.
