WEST VIRGINIA INTERNAL AFFAIRS SEMINAR

Explicitly designed for West Virginia Civil Service personnel. The focus of the course will be the proper method of conducting internal affairs investigations and maintaining compliance with civil service regulations. Topics covered include but will not be limited to:

(1) Receipt of complaints
(2) Notice to suspected employee
(3) Method of conducting investigation
(4) Differentiation between criminal and administrative investigations
(5) Review boards
(6) Civil service hearings
(7) Appellate review

 

WEST VIRGINIA POLICE RECORDS MANAGEMENT: UNDERSTANDING OF AND COMPLIANCE TO THE RULES

Explicitly designed for West Virginia law enforcement personnel, sworn or civilian, assigned to the records unit within their agency. The focus of the course will relate to the efficient maintenance of records in compliance with West Virginia laws and regulations. Topics covered include, but will not be limited to:

(1) Dealing with the public in terms of both public and exempt-type records
(2) Copying of records
(3) Laws and statutes to follow regarding the handling of your agency’s records
(4) Resources available regarding the interpretation of applicable laws
(5) Applicable and permissible fees
(6) Handling sealed and/or expunged records
(7) Rules and regulations regarding retention and destruction in compliance with West Virginia guidelines.

The program will also assist new records personnel to become acquainted with the options available to make their job more manageable and less stressful.
