Meet Retired Chief Ian A. Moffett

Retired Chief Ian A. Moffett is originally from Georgetown, Guyana and migrated to Toronto, Canada in 1976. In 1985, he moved to Miami, Florida and is currently a nationally and internationally recognized Law Enforcement Subject Matter Expert for the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of State and National Institute Justice.

Chief Moffett retired from the Miami-Dade School Board where he served as the Chief School Safety and Compliance Officer and the Chief of Police prior to that for the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department. He has over 29 years of public service experience as a career law enforcement officer and infantry soldier.

Retired Chief Moffett possesses a Master of Science degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course and the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (FBINA) Class 262. Additionally, he currently serves as a Criminal Justice Adjunct Professor for Southern New Hampshire University and Nova Southeastern University. Retired Chief Moffett holds a FBI Secret Clearance and is a certified General and Firearm Instructor through the State of Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.
