CALL-TAKER/DISPATCHER CRITICAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT & NEGOTIATION SKILLS

Announcing two seminars focusing on Call-Taker/Dispatcher Critical Incident Management. The focus of these courses explores the skills and functions needed by call-takers during critical incidents. This program is being conducted April 6 – 9, 2020 and hosted by the South Hampton Town Police Department, Hampton Bays, New York.
CALL-TAKER/DISPATCHER CRITICAL INCIDENT MANAGEMENT (APRIL 6 – 7, 2020)
A two-day seminar designed to improve the skills of call-takers and dispatchers needed to deal with life threatening emergencies, crimes-in-progress calls, officer-in-trouble and other situations in which immediate officer dispatch to the scene is necessary. Topics include: (1) roles and responsibilities of the telecommunicator; (2) the basics of gathering information; (3) how to prepare for, gather and dispatch information to field personnel during natural and man-made disasters; (4) officer safety issues; (5) suicide and crisis negotiations for the telecommunicator; and (6) handling personal stress when these situations occur.
CALL-TAKER/NEGOTIATION SKILLS (APRIL 8 – 9, 2020)
A two-day seminar designed to improve the skills of call-takers and dispatchers in dealing with negotiation skills. Topics include: (1) roles and responsibilities of the telecommunicator; (2) the basics of gathering information; (3) how to prepare for, gather and dispatch information to field personnel during hostage situations, suicidal callers, and similar incidents; (4) recognizing when the telecommunicator may be the actual negotiator, and building the skills to make you successful; (5) suicide and crisis negotiations for the telecommunicator; and (6) handling the personal and professional aftermath of these incidents.
INSTRUCTOR: Miles Turner, Communication Center Supervisor, Ret., Virginia State Police, Richmond, Virginia. LOCATION/TIME: Seminars conducted at the Southampton Town Police Department, 110 Old Riverhead Road, Hampton Bays, New York. 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
FEE: $295 per person.
