Investigative Report Writing – March 2 – 3, 2022

Focus on the composition and writing of investigative reports. Provides a review of the specifics which reports should contain. Topics include:
1) identification of the essential elements of an investigative report, to include the Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of an incident under investigation
(2) formatting an investigative report for a clear, coherent statement of facts free from inconsistencies or contradictions
(3) applying the appropriate resources available to produce a professional and readable report
(4) properly cross-referencing the investigative report to related statements by interested parties and/or evidence
(5) self-editing reports prior to supervisory review
(6) supporting documents needed to clarify or amplify individual points or statements presented in the investigative report.
