Moving Up to Supervision – Crater VA

For new, first-line supervisors, or those who expect such an assignment. The program presents information on work situations and emphasizes ideas to help supervisors develop sound judgment, self-reliance, and resourcefulness. Topics will include:

1) The supervisor as a link between management and the workforce

(2) The skills required to develop professional relationships with subordinates

(3) Encouraging the growth of subordinates through recurrent evaluations and training

(4) Discipline and how it reduces stress and builds unit morale

(5) Employee problems and how they affect productivity and labor-management relations

(6) Systems approach to supervision, which includes targeting objectives and monitoring, measuring, and appraising subordinates’ performance

(7) Recognizing and dealing with troubled or troublesome employees.
