This seminar extensively focuses on skills and techniques that new unit supervisors might utilize daily. It is designed for officers with little or no supervisory training who need such a program of study to oversee their unit’s operation effectively. Topics include:
(1) Supervision as a management tool
(2) Interpersonal communications
3) Motivation and leadership skills
(4) Aspects and models for team building
(5) Performance appraisal
(6) The role of the supervisor as trainer and coach
(7) Use of discipline as a crucial supervisory tool
(8) Employees with problems and problem employees
(9) Supervising officers from various backgrounds
(10) Handling critical incidents within and outside the unit
(11) Conflict resolution
